Kleine introductie:
Ik ben Matthew Scholten en ik kom uit de honkbal wereld. Ik heb 12 jaar gehonkbald bij de Amsterdam Pirates. Daarna ben ik vertrokken naar DVH Amstelveen om daar te gaan softballen in de toe nog genoemde hoofdklasse. Bij DVH heb ik zowel gehonkbald als gesoftbald. Ik zal dit seizoen mijn tweede seizoen starten bij de Hoofddorp Pioniers. Daarbij speel ik de laatste drie jaar bij een Indonesisch team uit Samarinda (Borneo). Hier spelen wij een groot internationaal toernooi op het wonderschone eiland Sulawesi in de stad Makassar.

Voor welke club speel je en wat zijn je posities?
Ik speel voor de Hoofddorp Pioniers en mijn posities zijn catcher, derde honk, eerste honk en outfield.

Hoe ben je begonnen met softbal?
Ik heb eerst bij mijn vader in het team gesoftbald in de vijfde klasse nadat ik niet meer in de selectie zat van het tweede team honkbal (eerste klasse). Daarna werd ik gevraagd om bij DVH in de hoofdklasse te gaan spelen.

Wat verwacht je van komend seizoen met het nationale team?
Hard werken en veel successen en ervaring opdoen.

Wat is je leukste/speciaalste ervaring tot nu toe geweest in je carrière?
Toen wij de Europacup wonnen met DVH en de toernooien die ik heb gespeeld in Indonesië.

Wat denk je dat de sleutel gaat zijn naar een succesvol seizoen?

Introduction:
My name is Matthew Scholten and originally I’m coming out of the baseball world. I played baseball for 12 years for the Amsterdam Pirates. After that, I started playing softball for DVH Amstelveen in the then so-called Dutch Major League. At DVH Amstelveen I played both baseball- and softball. At the moment I will start with my second season playing for the Hoofddorp Pioniers. Besides that, I have been playing for an Indonesian team from Samarinda (Borneo) since three years. With them, I play a big international tournament which takes place on a beautiful island called Sulawesi in the city Makassar.

For which club do you play and what are your positions?
I’m playing for the Hoofddorp Pioniers and my positions are catcher, third base, first base and outfield.

How did you start with softball?
First I played softball in my dad his team in the fifth league after I wasn’t selected anymore for the baseball team. After that, I got asked to play in the Dutch Major League for DVH Amstelveen.

What are your expectations for the coming season with the national team?
Work hard and gaining a lot of success and experiences.

What has been your best/most special experience so far?
Winning the Europa Cup with DVH Amstelveen and the tournaments with the Indonesian team.

What do you think will be the key to a successful season?
To be one team together.
