Robbert Heuvelman

Kleine introductie:
Ik ben Robbert Heuvelman en ik ben 54 jaar. Ik ben geboren op Aruba en heb daar 11 jaar gewoond voordat ik naar Nederland ben gekomen met mijn ouders. Ik woon in Zutphen. Ik ben getrouwd en heb twee, inmiddels grote, kinderen. Ik ben ambulanceverpleegkundige en ik werk alweer 22 jaar met veel plezier op de ambulance in Zutphen voor Witte Kruis Ambulancezorg.

Voor welke club speel je en wat zijn je posities?
Op dit moment speel ik voor Tex Town Tigers (TTT) in Enschede. Ik ben begonnen als catcher en korte stop. Verder heb ik zo’n beetje elke positie in het binnenveld gespeeld. Nu ben ik met name catcher en derde honkman.

Hoe ben je begonnen met softbal?
Ik ben begonnen als honkballer bij RUN ’71 te Oldenzaal. Daarna heb ik een jaar voor Quick Amersfoort gespeeld. Na dat jaar ben ik teruggegaan en heb ik voor RUN ’71, ATC (huidige Giants Hengelo (ov)) gespeeld. Vervolgens heb ik verschillende jaren bij Robur ’58 (Apeldoorn, overgangsklasse) en Tex Town Tigers (Enschede, overgangsklasse) gespeeld.
Nadat ik ben gesport met honkballen bij TTT (2013), ben ik het seizoen erop gaan softballen (bij TTT). Het idee was om rustiger aan te gaan doen en langzaam af te bouwen. Ware het niet dat ik in 2016 werd uitgenodigd om mee te doen met de voorselectie van het Nederlands Heren Softbal Team. Sindsdien heb ik het plezier in het spel weer helemaal gevonden en ben ik erg fanatiek en enthousiast bezig gegaan om me in te zetten voor TTT en het Nederlands team. In 2016 ben ik geselecteerd voor het Nederlands team en meegegaan naar het EK in Italië.

Wat verwacht je van komend seizoen met het nationaal team?
Voor het komend seizoen staat het EK in Tsjechië op het programma als grootste toernooi voor het Nederlands Heren Softbal team. Ik maak ook nu weer deel uit van de voorlopige selectie. Daadwerkelijke selectie moet nog gebeuren. Ik verwacht, gezien de manier waarop iedereen erg fanatiek bezig is, dat we hoge ogen gaan gooien en dat een plek in de finale haalbaar moet zijn. En natuurlijk gaan we dan voor GOUD.

Wat is je leukste/speciaalste ervaring tot nu toe geweest in je carrière?
Ik heb in mijn lange carrière heel wat ups and downs gekend. Een van de mooiste ervaringen uit mijn carrière is het kampioenschap met Robur ’58 van de Overgangsklasse. Deze had echter ook een bittere nasmaak omdat er door het bestuur van de club besloten werd om niet mee te doen met de promotie/degradatie wedstrijden voor een plek in de hoofdklasse. Verder is natuurlijk de deelname met het Nederlands Heren softbalteam aan het  EK in Italië ook een van de mooiste ervaringen uit mijn carrière, wat een enorme boost was voor mijn motivatie om fanatiek bezig te blijven en me weer in te zetten voor mijn eigen team en uiteraard het Nederlands team.

Wat denk je dat de sleutel gaat zijn naar een succesvol seizoen?
Ik denk dat de sleutel tot succes het optreden als één team is. Waarbij alle spelers en staf gezamenlijk hard werken naar één doel. Het kampioenschap!

Introduction:
My name is Robbert Heuvelman and I’m 54 years old. I was born on the island Aruba and I lived there 11 years before I came to the Netherlands with my parents. I live in Zutphen. I’m married and I have two grown up children. I’m an ambulance nurse and since 22 years I’ve been working for the ambulance in Zutphen for ‘Witte Kruis Ambulancezorg’.

For which club do you play and what are your positions?
At the moment I’m playing for Tex Town Tigers (TTT) in Enschede. I started as a catcher and short stop. However, I actually played every position in the infield. These days my main positions are catcher and third base man.

How did you start with softball?
I started as a baseballer at RUN ’71 in Oldenzaal. After that I played for Quick Amersfoort for one year. After that year I went back and played for RUN ’71, ATC (currently the Giants Hengelo). After that I played for Robur ’58 (Apeldoorn) and Tex Town Tigers (Enschede) for several years. After I stopped playing baseball at TTT (in 2013), I started playing softball for the same club. The idea was to take it easy. But in 2016 I got invited to join the pre-selection of the Dutch National Men’s Fastpitch Team. Since then I have found the joy in the game again and I have been very fanatic and enthusiastic to contribute in the national team and for my club team TTT. In 2016 I got through the final selection and played the European Championship in Italy.

What are your expectations for the coming season with the national team?
For coming season we have the European Championship in the Czech Republic planned as biggest tournament for our national team. Also now, I’m joining the pre-selection. The final selection still has to be announced. I expect that we will play a very good tournament and that the final should be something that we can make since everyone is working very hard. Of course we will go for the GOLD medal.

What has been your best/most special experience so far?
In my long career I’ve already had a lot of ups and downs. On of the most precious experiences in my career was the championship with Robur ’58 in the ‘overgangklasse’ league. However, this was also was some kind of a pity since the board of the club decided not to take part in the promotion/degradation games for a spot in the Dutch Major League. Also the participation in the European Championship in Italy with the national team is a beautiful experience out of my career. For me it was an enormous boost to keep doing my best for the national team as well as my club team.

What do you think will be the key to a successful season?
I think the key to success will be the performance as one team where all the players and staff are working hard together towards one goal: the championship!
